This Texas Roadhouse Seasoned Rice recipe makes a flavorful rice pilaf with buttery richness, savory spices, and a gentle kick of heat. It is a simple side dish that pairs with almost any main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice, rinsed
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 5 cups chicken stock

Instructions

  1. Set a large saucepan over medium-high heat and melt the butter until fully liquefied.
  2. Add the rinsed rice to the pan. Stir well and cook it in the butter for about 5 to 7 minutes, or until the grains start to turn lightly golden.
  3. Add the diced onion, paprika, dried parsley, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper. Stir everything together so the rice gets evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
  4. Pour in the chicken stock and mix well. Bring the mixture up to a boil.
  5. Once it begins boiling, lower the heat to low. Cover the saucepan and let the rice simmer for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the rice turns tender and most of the liquid disappears.
  6. Watch the texture closely near the end of the cooking time. The rice should look soft and slightly moist when finished, not dry or overcooked.
  7. Remove the pan from the heat and serve the Texas Roadhouse Seasoned Rice right away while it is hot and fluffy.

Notes

Notes

  • Rinsing the rice first matters. It helps remove extra starch and keeps the final texture lighter and less sticky.
  • Do not overcook the rice. If it cooks too long, it can turn mushy. If you pull it too early, it may stay firm or crunchy.
  • If the rice seems too dry, add a small splash of stock and let it sit covered for a few more minutes.

Storage and reheating

  • Let the rice cool completely before storing it. Place leftovers in an airtight container or sealable bag and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat on the stovetop, warm the rice over low heat with a small splash of water or stock until heated through.
  • To reheat in the oven, place it in a covered baking dish and heat at 350°F until warm.
  • To reheat in the microwave, transfer it to a microwave-safe dish, cover loosely, and heat in short intervals until hot.
