This Instant Pot Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal makes a cozy breakfast with soft apples, warm spice, and a creamy finish. It cooks quickly in the pressure cooker and gives you a comforting bowl of oatmeal with very little effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 apples, cored and chopped into small chunks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk, divided
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, or more to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, or as desired

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples.
Remove the cores from the apples and cut them into small bite-size pieces. There is no need to peel them unless you prefer to.
  2. Sauté the apples.
Turn the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Once the pot is hot, add the butter and let it melt completely. Add the chopped apples and cook them for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring occasionally so they soften a little and begin releasing their aroma.
  3. Add the oats.
Stir in the rolled oats and continue sautéing for 1 more minute. This helps the oats pick up a little flavor before pressure cooking.
  4. Add the liquids and seasoning.
Press cancel to stop sautéing. Pour in the water, cinnamon, and salt, then stir everything together so the oats are evenly moistened. After that, slowly pour 1 cup of the milk over the top. Do not stir it in. Keeping the milk on top helps prevent scorching on the bottom of the pot.
  5. Cook under pressure.
Secure the lid and make sure the valve is set to sealing. Cook on manual or pressure cook for 7 minutes. When the cooking time ends, allow the pot to sit on warm for 10 minutes before releasing the pressure.
  6. Finish the oatmeal.
Carefully release the remaining pressure and open the lid. Stir the oatmeal well. Add the rest of the milk if you want a looser consistency, then mix in the brown sugar and chopped walnuts. Taste and add more sweetener if needed, then serve warm.
