These Creamy Garlic Potatoes are a quick stovetop side dish made with simple ingredients and big flavor. Tender potatoes get tossed in a buttery garlic cream sauce for a cozy, crowd-pleasing finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. white potatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped, optional

Instructions

  1. Cook the potatoes
Pour water into a medium saucepan and bring it to a boil. Add the sea salt to the water. While the water heats, rinse the potatoes well. You can leave the skins on unless you prefer them peeled. Cut each potato into quarters. If the potatoes are round, slice them in half first, then cut each half again so you end up with four pieces. Add the potato pieces to the boiling water and cook them until they are tender enough to pierce easily with a fork. This usually takes 15 to 20 minutes. Once they are done, drain them and remove them from the saucepan.
  2. Make the garlic cream sauce
While the potatoes are cooking, chop the garlic. Place the empty saucepan back on the stove and add the butter. Let it melt completely. Once the butter is melted, add the chopped garlic and cook it for about 3 minutes, stirring as needed, until it turns golden and smells fragrant. Next, pour in the heavy cream. Lower the heat and allow the garlic and cream to simmer together for about 5 minutes so the flavors blend and the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Combine and finish
Add the drained potatoes into the creamy garlic sauce. Toss gently so the potatoes get fully coated. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you are using parsley, add it now and mix everything together once more. Serve the Creamy Garlic Potatoes warm.

Notes

  • Use baby potatoes, red potatoes, or other thin-skinned potatoes if you prefer.
  • Half-and-half or sour cream can replace heavy cream for a lighter variation.
  • Add dill if you want a fresh herbal twist.
  • Reheat leftovers gently on low heat and add a splash of cream if needed.
