These Copycat Dairy Queen Buster Bars taste like the classic Dairy Queen favorite, but with a homemade twist that is creamy, chocolatey, and packed with protein. With a simple peanut butter filling and a crisp chocolate shell, this easy frozen dessert is the kind of treat you will want waiting in the freezer at all times.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup yogurt (you can also use vanilla ice cream or vegan yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter, or an allergy-friendly substitute
  • 2 tablespoons sweetener of choice, only if your yogurt is unsweetened
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons peanuts, optional
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil, optional

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, peanut butter, and sweetener if you are using it. Stir or whip everything together until the mixture becomes smooth, creamy, and evenly blended. You do not want streaks of peanut butter hiding in the bowl. If you like a little extra texture, fold in a handful of mini chocolate chips at this stage.
  2. Line a tray, baking sheet, or large plate with parchment paper. This keeps the bars from sticking once they are shaped and frozen.
  3. Scoop the mixture onto the prepared tray in even portions. A spoon or cookie scoop works well here. Drop each mound with enough space between them so they do not freeze together.
  4. Gently press a popsicle stick or a small spoon into the center of each portion. Then use the back of a spoon or a spatula to smooth and shape the tops a little if needed. You want each one to hold together well enough to dip later.
  5. Sprinkle chopped peanuts over the tops if you are using them. Press them lightly into the surface so they stay put after freezing. This adds a nice crunch and makes the bars feel a little more like the classic Peanut Buster style dessert.
  6. Transfer the tray to the freezer and let the bars freeze until they are completely firm. This step is important because the bars need to be solid before you dip them in chocolate.
  7. Once the bars are frozen, melt the chocolate chips carefully. You can do this in the microwave using short bursts, stirring between each one, or use a double boiler if you prefer a gentler method. Stir until the chocolate is glossy and fully smooth.
  8. If you want a thinner, silkier chocolate coating, stir in the coconut oil after the chocolate has melted. Mix until the chocolate looks smooth and easy to work with.
  9. Take each frozen peanut butter bar and dip it into the melted chocolate. Coat it as evenly as you can, letting any excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. Work quickly so the bars stay cold and firm.
  10. Place the coated bars back onto the parchment-lined tray. Once all of them are dipped, return the tray to the freezer so the chocolate shell can set completely.
  11. After the chocolate hardens, your homemade Copycat Dairy Queen Buster Bars are ready to enjoy. Eat them right away or store them in a covered container in the freezer for later.
